New York Alternative Parking Rule Reappears: New Schedule

But now its action is resuming again on an ongoing basis, but according to an updated schedule.

Under the new rule, which came into effect on June 29, drivers can no longer worry about having to move their cars on Monday, as cleaning will only take place once a week - on Thursdays (9:30 am to 11:00 am).

Since the start of the pandemic, alternative street parking has almost been abandoned. Now the city is returning to this practice again and plans to adhere to a new approach until the end of summer.

While many residents are happy that now they will only need to move their cars once a week, others are worried that the streets will be dirty due to insufficient cleaning.

But Mayor Bill de Blasio claims that benefits for residents will outweigh possible disadvantages, at least for now.

“It’s not fair to ask them (drivers - Ed.) To keep moving their cars if they don’t need to,” he said last week. “We've learned a lot in recent months about alternative parking and what to do and what not. And also, in the midst of all the hardships people are going through, I want to lighten their burden where I can. "

Recall that the parking rule on the alternative side was suspended in New York from the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, which marked one of the longest periods without this rule in the history of the city. The purpose of the suspension is to keep New Yorkers from having to carry out the onerous task of frequently moving cars from one side of the street to the other during quarantine.

Ferries

As for the work of ferries, their work also resumes. Starting June 29th, ferries departing from Port Imperial to Weekhawken, New Jersey will run every 20 minutes.

Upon arrival of the ferries to 39th West Street, passengers will be able to transfer to free buses that will take them east on 42nd Street to the terminal of 34th Street and east on 50th Street to the terminal of 57th Street.

For passenger safety, ferries and buses will operate at a 50 percent load. After each trip, vehicles will be disinfected, and passengers will also be required to wear face masks during the trip.
