She noted that 60% of new cases in America come from the New York metropolitan region.

Her message was repeated by US Vice President Mike Pence. He said the federal government sees New York as a “high risk zone” and will continue to build resources in the region. Pence said public health officials are seeing one infection per 1000 people in the New York area, compared with 0,1 or 0,2 per 1000 people in places like Washington state. In the latter, the first major outbreak in the United States was reported. “Take on board the recommendations we published and avoid unnecessary trips,” Pence added.

A warning about the inadmissibility of leaving the region and self-isolation came the day after Ron DeSantis ordered everyone who arrives on a flight from the New York region to undergo a two-week self-quarantine.

In a statement from his office in Tallahassee, Florida, DeSantis said that more than 100 such flights arrive on a daily basis. He believes that on each of these flights there is at least one person infected with the new coronavirus.
