Heart stopped due to COVID-19: a teenager saved the life of his 8-year-old brother and became a hero

An 8-year-old boy was saved thanks to his older brother's quick response. The teenager was not at a loss and provided emergency care to the child when his heart stopped. Doctors said the stop was due to the coronavirus. Writes about it CNN.

The father of 8-year-old Jayden Hardovar from Queens, New York, said his son had a fever in late April, but the next day the temperature dropped and the boy looked healthy. However, shortly after, Jayden developed an upset stomach, and three days later his heart suddenly stopped.

Tiron, the boy's 15-year-old brother, gave him first aid, which he learned to do in a Boy Scout group. He continued to give him chest compressions until paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator to restore the child's heart rhythm.

“I was very nervous. I had a lot of thoughts, but then I told myself that I need to put them aside and focus, ”Tiron said.

"As soon as I saw him take a deep breath, I thought, 'I'm doing everything right,'" he said. “You know, I’m very glad that I helped him survive.”

Jaden, who according to his father is now at home and gradually recovering, has tested negative for coronavirus, but positive for the presence of antibodies to it in his blood. Hardovar said his son had been in the hospital for almost two weeks and still couldn't talk.

Hardovar said that after his son's fever, they consulted a pediatrician who suggested it was the flu because the boy did not have any other coronavirus-related symptoms.

He said they have no idea when the boy allegedly contracted the coronavirus, or if it could have happened a few weeks ago while he was still in school.

"What happens to the children (due to the virus) is still a mystery," Hardovar said, adding that doctors said the boy's condition could be "caused by the coronavirus."

But the parents did not know that he was infected with the coronavirus at all.

“We didn't know about it at all. And this is a condition that has arisen now, doctors believe that it is the result of a virus,” he said.

Edition ABC7 spoke about the exciting moment of the boy's discharge from the hospital after treatment.

“I want to thank you guys,” the father told the emergency services that saved his son and brought him home from the hospital.

Tom Gonzalez was a member of the emergency services team that went to the call, and it was he who brought Jayden back to life.

“After what has been happening in the past few months, to see someone come home and continue to live is amazing,” Gonzalez said.

The rescuer also has an 8-year-old son and he decided to support the family of the injured boy as a sign of a celebration of life.

“It's just crazy, people use the word 'apocalypse' to describe what's happening around. But now we have learned to appreciate when something good happens. It makes you feel just great," Gonzalez said.

Due to many unknown factors, Hardovar advises parents to take any signs of illness in a child seriously, even if they think they are not related to the virus.

“We know we have to look after the elderly carefully, but today the situation has changed,” said Hardovar. “We also have to watch the kids and look at any symptoms they show.”
