Central Park hosts tour for those wishing to see cherry blossoms in New York

There is perhaps no better harbinger of spring than cherry blossoms. Central Park has announced an official tour that allows you to make the most of the scent of Japanese cherry trees, reports East Side Feed.

Every year, garlands of soft pink and white flowers come to life throughout the park. The cherry blossoms only bloom for a few weeks, and for many of its visitors this is a great reason to walk longer among this charm. This year, park guests can enjoy the only official tour of cherry blossom locations. It is led by experienced guides from the Central Park Conservancy, a non-profit organization responsible for all aspects of park care.

During the tour Cherry Blossoms on the Reservoir Tour Visitors will learn how the 35 Yoshino cherry trees located on the east side of the reservoir came to the park from Japan and how they are cared for throughout the year. Guides will take visitors around the iconic reservoir, where this species of unearthly blossoming cherry tree is located.

During the 90-minute tour, visitors will pass historical landmarks in the area, including the Gothic bridge on the western side of the reservoir. In it, visitors will learn about the history and biodiversity of the area from a Central Park expert.

The tour lasts only for two weeks, which makes it especially interesting for both local residents and visitors to the city. The tour runs daily from Friday, March 29 to Sunday, April 7, with one additional tour on Saturday, April 13. Depending on the length of the tree flowering period, other dates may be assigned.

The Central Park Conservancy's tour is New York's only cherry blossom tour that directly supports the park and is led by its caretakers. Tickets available for purchase here, are $35, but discounts are available for Central Park Conservancy members, retirees, students, active military or veterans, and visitors with disabilities.

Children under 12 years of age and accompanying persons with disabilities can take the tour for free.
