After federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) ended, more than 40 million Americans, including nearly 3 million New Yorkers, faced difficulty accessing food.
On October 30, New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency and unveiled an emergency support plan.
"I'm making additional state funding available for food assistance to ensure no New Yorker goes hungry," Hochul said.
$65 million in funding is being allocated to support food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens. Authorities estimate this assistance will provide approximately 40 million meals to state residents.
