Dozens of New York City Department of Education employees to be placed on unpaid leave from Monday for allegedly providing fake evidence of COVID-19 vaccinations, reports New York Post.
The employees in question, including teachers and administrators, were notified via email on Wednesday, April 20. They were asked not to return to work after spring break, according to the DOE and screenshots posted on social media.
“Fake vaccination cards are not only illegal, they undermine our schools’ line of defense against COVID-19 – universal adult vaccination,” said department spokesman Nathaniel Styer. “We immediately made the decision to send these employees (less than 100 people) on unpaid leave.”

According to the teachers' union, some teachers contacted the Department of Education claiming they received the notice "by mistake"
“The Department of Education is completely inappropriate and unilaterally depriving UFT members of wages based on the mere assumption that vaccination documentation is fake,” Beth Norton, General Counsel for the United Federation of Teachers, wrote to the Department of Education.
At least two other city agencies — the FDNY and the Department of Sanitation — have also had issues with employee vaccination passport fraud. This winter, two NYPD cops were put on heavy duty after they allegedly tried to evade a citywide vaccination mandate by providing fake IDs.

“It's no wonder when people's lives are at stake, they become desperate,” said Michael Caine, head of Teachers for Choice. This group opposes the mandatory introduction of the COVID vaccine as a prerequisite for teaching or attending school. “It is a pity that the names of these people are not Kyrie Irving or someone else in a more powerful position. Because it really seems like these mandates are turning into a class war,” he remarked, referring to Mayor Eric Adams’ controversial vaccine exemption for professional athletes and performers.
The New York School District Commissioner of Investigation and law enforcement will investigate allegations of fraudulent vaccination records.
The SCI declined to comment on the post and referred all requests to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
