Two men staged a shooting in a New York hotel: they have a large criminal record

The federal service responded to a call to the hotel on October 2. Materials for making explosives were found at the scene of a deadly shooting that killed an innocent bystander, reports NBC New York.

Sources identified the attackers as Roy Johnson Jr. and Devin Taylor. Johnson is believed to have been the shooter at the Courtyard Marriott. He was charged with murder. Both men were charged with criminal possession of weapons. No further details were forthcoming in the previous case. But officials said they each have at least one felony conviction.

The suspect shooter had a Glock switch on his pistol that made it fully automatic. This gun, which claimed the life of an innocent bystander, was found on the roof of his car. And the second weapon - a ghost rifle - was found in a room shared by the men.

Glock switches are illegal. They turn semi-automatic handguns into fully functioning automatics that federal law classifies as machine guns. The suspected shooter also had a 30-round high-capacity magazine.

The search warrant was issued at night. He touched their car, which, according to investigators, could contain tannerite, which is used in long-range shooting. It explodes on impact.

It is not clear why the tannerite could have been in the car. And what do they have to do with other firearms, stun bombs and explosive materials found in their hotel room.

According to the preliminary investigation, the shooter went down to the hotel lobby for coffee on October 2. He got into an argument with some hotel staff and others. And then he took out a gun and fired, killing the victim.

A senior law enforcement official said the two suspects had previously been in a hotel room and were smoking a PCP-like substance.

The chaos unfolded over the course of several hours at the Marriott Hotel on South Road when police officers arrived on the scene at 7:30 a.m. after reporting the shooting.

Reports of a find in a hotel room came later in the investigation. Manuals for making explosive devices were also found in the room.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation. The state police also responded. However, the authorities emphasized that there was no active threat to the population.

The shooting happened in the midst of Marist's Family Weekend. During this time, students and their families are invited to take part in three-day activities, including a football game, tile-gating and a waterfront picnic.

Marist College acknowledged the tragedy in an email to students on Sunday.

“Authorities brought us to the news this morning about the tragic shooting of a student family member at a local hotel near campus,” the college wrote. “Our deepest condolences to the family. And we offer the full support of the Marist community.”

President Kevin Weinman did not reveal the identity of the victim in a second email sent to the college community. But he said that dozens of Marist families were at the hotel on Sunday when the shooting started and SWAT teams broke into the building.
