“Decontamination” of cars
On June 28, The Tire Extinguishers celebrated the “disarmament” of 40 SUVs on the Upper East Side.
The protesters left leaflets on each of the vehicles. They were a request to the owner "not to take it to heart."
“We did this because driving through urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge implications for others,” it said. The world is facing a climate emergency. We take matters into our own hands because our rulers and politicians don't."

No arrests made, investigation ongoing
“The Tire Extinguishers wants to push for SUV bans in urban areas, as well as pollution taxes and huge investments in free public transport,” the group said in a statement.
But until politicians make this a reality, they promise to act.
The Group has operations in the UK, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden and New Zealand.
