Electronic cigarettes officially banned in New York: terms and conditions

Flavored electronic cigarettes are officially banned in New York State. The ban will be valid for at least 90 days.

Following the call of State Governor Andrew Cuomo to ban all flavored vape products, the New York City Board of Public Health and Health Planning unanimously voted in favor of this decision.

According to New York State Health officials, vape shops and other stores selling vaping products have a two-week grace period to stop selling these products.

If after the expiration of this period it is established that they sold electronic cigarettes or flavored liquids for them, merchants will be fined 2000 dollars per unit, according to a press release from the Department of Health.

After the 90-day period, the council will meet again and vote to extend the ban for another 90 days or to remove it.

Cuomo wants the state legislature to develop a document that would make the ban permanent.

New York is the first state in the United States to temporarily ban e-cigarettes. Michigan took a similar step earlier this month - the ban will go into effect within the next few weeks. And it will last six months before it needs to be renewed.
