Chef John Fraser, who has received critical acclaim for his work at Dovetail and Nix restaurants, is offering city restaurant workers a 70% discount on meals at his New York restaurants as part of the “industry table“, Informs New York Post.
Current restaurant workers can get eggplant moussaka ($32) for just $9,60 or lamb chops ($68) for $20,40. Thus, Fraser wants to thank those who supported the functioning of the city during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Discounts available at Fraser restaurants:
- iris;
- La Marchande;
- The Terrace and Outdoor Gardens (at the Times Square Edition Hotel);
- North Fork Table & Inn in the East End of Long Island.
“I just started thinking about the service industry, which has been hit hard. Before the pandemic, it was a lot of fun. And then it turned into a survival job,” Frazier said.
How the program works
At each of his four restaurants, Fraser will reserve a table for two each night for employees of the city's restaurants. If you work in any restaurant in the city (as a waiter, dishwasher, assistant - anyone), you can take part in the action industry table. But one person can book a maximum of two discounted dinners per year at each of the four participating restaurants.
Discounted dinner times will vary depending on restaurant availability.
There will also be “black dates” when the promotional offer is not valid. In addition, the discount does not apply to drinks.

During the pandemic, Fraser lost two of his restaurants: The Loyal and the iconic vegetarian restaurant Nix, for which he received a prestigious Michelin star.
“It hurt,” he said.
At the same time, Fraser's well-established establishments at the Times Square Edition Hotel were closed. The hotel went through a bankruptcy process and an auction. Fraser's restaurant in the hotel building has not yet opened.
But during the pandemic, the chef acquired several other restaurants. Iris opened in April 2021. And La Marchande - in June last year.
Reopening restaurants during and after the pandemic brought its own challenges
Thousands of New York restaurant workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic have left the city. Many even changed their profession.
Although some of them have returned, the restaurants still lack staff. And there are still fewer guests than before the pandemic. The post-pandemic work-from-home phenomenon has changed the cultural landscape and people are less likely to go to restaurants.
