Shortly after the billboards were installed, the Lincoln Project posted on its Twitter page copy of the letter dated October 23, received from attorney Trump and Kushner. The Lincoln Project called the contents of the letter "madness." On Saturday, October 24, Matthew Sanderson, the group's legal counsel, wrote an official response.

“Please use your intimidation tactics elsewhere. The Lincoln Project cannot be intimidated with empty threats, ”he said.

The Lincoln Project noted that they used a photo of Ivanka, which she used to advertise the Goya beans; then the can of beans was removed, replacing it with statistical information on coronavirus victims in New York and the United States. Jared's quote about New Yorkers suffering comes from an anonymous source in a Vanity Fair article. Sanderson wrote that the couple can only convince his organization not to use those words if they "somehow manage to convince Vanity Fair to withdraw their article."

"Mr. Kushner and Miss Trump are government officials," Sanderson wrote. He added that if a couple cares about their position in the eyes of Americans, then "they can stop suppressing truthful criticism and pay attention to the crisis caused by COVID-19, which is still here."
