Google launches courses for New Yorkers who want to work in IT: there is a chance to take them for free

Lisa Gevelber runs the company Grow with Google in New York. The tech giant provides four industry-recognized certifications for anyone with a computer and looking to earn a tech paycheck, especially for those living in low-income communities.

“Google and many other employers are overlooking so many diverse talents,” Gevelber said. "There are over 1 million job openings in these areas right now."

Gevelber named four main areas:

• IT support;
• data analytics;
• user experience design;
• project management.

Google offers 100 scholarships to take courses free of charge. Anyone without a scholarship can also enroll for a fee.

New Yorkers can register for courses here.

Courses cost $ 39 per month as a subscription to Coursera. Access to the Google Associate Android Developer Certification courses is free, but there is a $ 149 fee for the exam.

According to the company's website, Google does not generate income from certificates. Financial assistance is also available based on needs.

Students can take online courses at their own pace, but they usually take three to six months to complete. Upon completion, Google will match alumni with potential employers.

“These certifications aren't just for Google, we have 130 employers right in New York looking to hire graduates,” Gevelber added.

Community college students can also take advantage of this program.

If you want to work at Google, the company is looking for 100 interns, most locations in New York. It is necessary to pass the selection. Those who are selected will receive paid internships and jobs.
