How is the service in the US Army: an overheard story of an immigrant in a cafe

Everyone who wants to go to the recruiting office, where he briefly tells his story, confirms US citizenship, shows a medical certificate and passes the first test, as a result of which the main ASVAB test for vocational training is prescribed.

After that, everyone is sent to a military base, where they are met by a sergeant. He explains the rules, gives out bed linen and places them in the barracks.

The first week is boring. Getting up at four in the morning, marching, vaccinations and filling out various papers. According to Armeets, it was forbidden to talk to other recruits until they returned to the barracks. By the way, the barracks are designed for 60 people. Each has single bunk beds, eight toilet cubicles and a shower.

There is collective punishment in the army. That is, one soldier is guilty - everyone is punished. Guilty people are not liked here.

Further, Armeets clarified that a week later, everyone will be assigned to divisions for the next three months. Interestingly, the first week the recruits live in the barracks all together. But after the distribution of the girls, they are settled separately.

The new premises are also designed for 60 people and a shower room for six. Only now all 60 soldiers have only one minute to shower! But if this is so, only those who served here know.

The soldier, among other things, spoke about a kind of game. At first, all the sergeants yell at the recruits in the face like watchdogs, and then gradually begin to soften the tone. However, not everyone can stand it. Some recruits fight back with their fists and are taken away by the military police.

Of course, not every day the soldiers of the American army meet foreigners in their ranks, so the nickname “Russian spy” was quickly entrenched for Armeets. Soon they began to call him specnaz for his good shape and fortitude, because he did not show signs and was invincible in the struggle between the cadets. Perhaps Armeets embellished reality by praising himself.

Approximate daily routine: getting up at four in the morning, washing, building on the parade ground and physical education. On weekdays, the military many times pass the obstacle course and practice discipline.

In the form of punishments, push-ups are used until exhaustion or running until the legs are numb. And the punishments are always collective, as mentioned earlier. But in general, the overall workload in the army is not particularly intense.

It is surprising that all phones are taken away during the service. Classic paper letters remain the only means of communication.

I like serving the Army soldier in the States. The work is not particularly dusty, the management is good, although here, as elsewhere, it is not necessary once at a time. Sergeants are often interested in the opinion of a Russian on the foreign policy of our countries, treat him with interest, respect and slight apprehension.
