New York mayoral candidate proposes to create homes for TikTokers in the city

One of the candidates for mayor of New York - 46-year-old Andrew Young - proposed building houses in the city for users of the TikTok network. But not all residents of the metropolis liked the idea, writes Gazeta.ru.

Andrew Young posted on his website election program, in which he proposed to create a favorable environment for creative youth in the city by organizing TikTok houses.

But New Yorkers are ironic and even angry about this. They are not ready for the typical Los Angeles phenomenon, when a group of 20-year-old Tiktokers settle in a large house, throw parties and post the product of their work on social networks, to take root with them. New Yorkers believe that this will be unnecessary for their city.

“Our administration will work with major institutions to help subsidize the rental of artists' residences in buildings. These up-and-coming creative people deserve a place to develop their art, and the city will have a role to play in supporting their dreams. Also, our administration will work to attract content creation teams, such as the hype houses on TikTok, where young creators work together. We have to help such creative teams that use new technologies, ”says Andrew Young's program.

On Twitter, New Yorkers criticized the idea of ​​hype houses.

“Fancy a TikTok house in New York? Are these three passive-aggressive neighbors in a tiny apartment who swear because it is not big enough for them to be able to film tiktoks at the same time and someone leaves dirty dishes in the sink all the time? " - wrote one of the users of Twitter.

Others recalled that something similar to such houses had already existed in the city. “In a sense, New York became the birthplace of the original hype houses. Andy Warhol factories, ”said a resident of the city.

Some commentators simply did not understand the promises of the mayoral candidate.

“It just pisses me off that because of this Andrew Young bullshit, I had to ask my son what a TikTok house is. The world needs to be rebalanced, ”a resident of the city complained on Twitter.

TikTok houses are actively developing in another US city - Los Angeles. Young people making videos for the TikTok platform began settling together in luxury Los Angeles mansions over a year ago, according to The New York TimesTikTok star Chase Hudson, 17, and YouTube fame Thomas Petru, 21, were the first to do so. At the end of 2019, they founded a house called Hype House - later this name became a household name, and now all the dwellings where companies of content creators live for the popular application are called hyip houses.

Tiktokers' homes are located in wealthy neighborhoods - in particular, the Hype House in Encino, in a mansion with 10 bedrooms and nine bathrooms, three fireplaces, a swimming pool, several balconies, a gym and two courtyards, and 20 people live in it.

Another popular hype house was in the middle of last year at the center of a scandal: Bel-Air residents complained about noisy parties at the Sway House in the midst of a pandemic, after which its inhabitants were temporarily cut off.

There are also hype houses in the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. They too are located in mansions with pools, fireplaces, gyms, spa areas and home theaters.
