Manhattan's iconic skating rink, a fixture in countless movies and TV shows, is celebrating its 88th anniversary. It officially opened on Saturday, October 12, and will be open through the fall and winter.
The skating rink began as a temporary attraction to attract visitors to the open area. Rockefeller Center in 1936. By 1939, it had become a city property. Since then, the rink has become one of New York's most legendary landmarks and most visited places. It welcomes more than a quarter of a million guests annually.

The minimum cost of admission is $21, but sometimes it can be as much as $114, depending on the date, time and age of the skater. Skate rental is not included in the price, which is about $12. The rink is currently open from 9:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m., but during the high season it will be open from 7:00 a.m. Children under 12 can ride free on Saturdays and Sundays until October 31st, if they wear Halloween costumes.
