As the cost of living rises and housing markets on crowded coastlines shrink, Americans who once considered themselves financially stable are suddenly finding it difficult to make ends meet. And while achieving the American Dream may now cost $1 million more than the average worker earns in a lifetime, that doesn't mean the United States is devoid of opportunities—you might just have to get a little creative. New York Post published a list of states that have profitable relocation programs.
For every overheated metropolis, there is another that could use an infusion of new energy. Especially in the heartland, states and cities that have lost population in recent years are not only trying to attract new talent, but are willing to pay for it.
West Virginia
There are beautiful national parks and recreation areas where you can enjoy outdoor activities such as rafting and cross-country skiing. The Mountain State also features the vibrant college town of Morgantown, charming, artsy Lewisburg, and the grand, historic resort of Greenbrier.
State program Ascend W.V. is offering a $12 relocation bonus, plus a year of free outdoor recreation pass. Some cities and regions are willing to add $000 to get you to move into their corner. Plus the median home price is $20. This is a great location just a few hours from the bustling Boston-Washington corridor.
Oklahoma
Just minutes from the Ozarks and booming Oklahoma City, charming Tulsa offers beautiful old neighborhoods and plenty of entertainment while keeping home costs low—the city's median home price is just $196. Better yet, those who... thinking about moving, will be able to use the program Tulsa remote, which provides $10 relocation packages to remote workers who want to move to Tulsa.
Kentucky
Live music, Mammoth Caves National Park and all the bourbon you can drink. Several communities in the Bluegrass State, one of the top 5 affordable housing markets in the country, offer relocation packages for those who can bring their jobs with them. Far Eastern Johnson County и city of Owensboro on the Ohio River are just two programs worth exploring.
Indiana
Situated virtually in the heart of the Midwest and with rail connections to Chicago, Indianapolis has grown exponentially in recent years—so why does the state's median home price remain a surprisingly low $227? The state, stretching from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River, is known for its low cost of living and low unemployment, and has plenty of room for newcomers - check out the cities Marion и Angola, where cash benefits for new arrivals start at $5.
Kansas
Anyone who moves to Kansas can apply for state income tax exemption—how's that for a gift? Plus affordable housing. City Topeka offers up to $15 in benefits, a very tempting package.
