Cultural life in New York is reborn: when will museums open and which ones

The dates of the reopening of museums and other cultural institutions in New York have finally become known. Some of them will open their doors to visitors in August. The details were shared by the edition abc7NY.

After Gov. Andrew Cuomo and officials approved the reopening of museums and cultural institutions in New York on August 24, several organizations announced their prospects in this regard.

These are the institutions that will soon begin to receive visitors.

Brooklyn Museum

Brooklyn Museum announced the resumption of work with 12 September... As part of secure reopening, all tickets will have a time stamp and entry every 15 minutes. This will limit the number of people simultaneously in the galleries.

Only the 1st and 5th floors will be opened.

Barrio Museum

El Museo del Barrio Museum will reopen its doors 12 September. In his work, he will follow guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State and the City of New York to provide a safe environment for visitors.

Also, medical examinations of the staff will be carried out. Special attention will be paid to cleaning the premises and disinfecting surfaces, especially those that are often touched by visitors.

Madame Tussauds museum

Madame Tussauds New York will re-open its doors to guests already 26 August. Visitors are expected from 11 am to 17 pm, from Wednesday to Sunday.

The museum has implemented security measures in line with state guidelines and local health authorities, including time and date tickets, social distancing guidelines, contactless payment, thorough cleaning, and employee health checks.

All guests will be required to wear protective face masks. The capacity will be limited to 25% of the allowed number of visitors.

September 11 Museum

Almost half a year after it closed due to the coronavirus pandemic Memorial Museum 9/11 will reopen on the anniversary of the attacks next month.

Memorial Square has been open to visitors with social distancing restrictions since early July, but the museum, like other cultural institutions, has remained closed.

The first to visit the museum are relatives of those killed in the attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 and the victims of the 2001 terrorist attack. The rest will be able to come here with 12 September.

The museum will have strict rules, including a 25% capacity limit and a requirement to wear masks. For the safety of staying inside, they will install plexiglass dividers and manual sanitation platforms, as well as provide temperature control for all visitors.

The museum will be open five days a week. Until it closed in mid-March, it worked daily, but now they have introduced weekends on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Museums on Liberty and Ellis Islands

The Statue of Liberty and the National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island are slated to partially reopen on Monday. 24 of August.

The reopening of the museums is part of the first phase of the NPS and will include access to such facilities:

• Statue of Liberty (immersive theater and interactive exhibits closed);
• Ellis Island National Immigration Museum (theaters, interactive exhibits and library closed);
• Freedom and Ellis Islands Territory (information center closed);
• The pedestal and crown of the Statue of Liberty remain closed to the public.

Open spaces on Liberty and Ellis Islands can be visited subject to social distancing rules and wearing masks.

Museum of Art and Design

Museum of Art and Design announced reopening with on September 17.

Zoos

Modern Art Museum

Museum of Contemporary Art will resume its work 27 August. Before September 27: 10:30 am to 17:30 pm, Tuesday through Sunday for the public; and from 10:30 am to 17:30 pm on Mondays for MAMA members only. Entry will be free for all visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, until September 27th, thanks to AMA's longtime partner UNIQLO.

MoMA has implemented new security protocols for its guests, following CDC, State and New York City guidelines.

The museum also opened its flagship store on 53rd Street and MoMA designer stores in Midtown and Soho.

Metropolitan Museum

Metropolitan Museum reopens to visitors 29 of August.

Members of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be able to visit the museum earlier, on August 27 and 28. The Metropolitan Club is scheduled to open on Saturday 12 September.

“After almost six months, the reopening of the Met will be a historic moment for the museum and the city,” said Daniel H. Weiss, president and CEO of Met. "In recent months of uncertainty, isolation and grief, we have dreamed of a day when we can safely greet everyone so that they can find comfort, inspiration and a sense of community."

The Metropolitan Building on Fifth Avenue will be open five days a week, Thursday through Monday. On Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, it awaits visitors from 10 am to 17 pm. Later, the museum will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 19pm.

Met has developed comprehensive security procedures for its employees and visitors in accordance with guidelines issued by the CDC, the State and the City of New York. Measures include limiting the number of visitors to 25% of the museum's maximum capacity and requiring timely entry registration.
