Applying for a discount MetroCard is now easier than ever. On December 20, the New York Transportation Administration (MTA) announced the launch of online portal to apply for preferential MetroCards. “The initial responses were great, with hundreds of customers filling in since launch,” Cipriano said.
Residents with concessional MetroCards are charged $ 1,35 for all metro and local bus rides. This fee is half the standard $ 2,75 rate.
Discount MetroCard holders also pay half the fare on city express buses, excluding travel during peak hours on weekdays, 6 am-10am and 15pm-19pm.
