The Feast of San Gennaro

The San Gennaro Festival takes place annually in Little Italy. Starting Thursday, September 15, you will have plenty of time to sample all the cannoli and zeppoli that Little Italy has to offer.

An interesting almost century-old history of this of the festival. At the turn of the 20th century, as Italian immigrants settled on Manhattan's lower east side, each region settled on its own street. The Neapolitans settled in Mulberry Street. In 1926, keeping their Neapolitan traditions alive, they decided to have a one-night party in honor of their patron saint and protector of Naples, San Gennaro. It has continued year after year, and over the decades has become not only a New York City icon, but a world-famous 11-day event that spans 11 city blocks.
