New York City May Pay for Kindergarten for Your Child: How to Get a Child Care Voucher

The City of New York provides families living in the city with voucherswhich partially or fully cover the cost of childcare (kindergarten and other similar institutions).

Who can apply for a voucher

Families whose income does not exceed 300% of the federal cost of living. The table below shows the income limits at which you can apply for a child care voucher.

In addition to an adequate income, the family must have ONE of the following reasons to receive a voucher:

• parent(s) work more than 10 hours per week;
• the parent(s) are participating in a general or vocational education program;
• parent(s) looking for work;
• the family lives in temporary housing;
• the parent receives help as a victim of domestic violence.

The decision to issue a voucher is based on an assessment of family size, living conditions, income, and reasons why the child or children need care. These conditions are confirmed by the documents attached by the applicant to the application. To check if you qualify, go to short survey!

How to apply for a child care voucher

The New York City Office of Children's Services (ACS) began accepting applications for child care assistance on October 17th.

Application procedure:

• Fill out the form (CFWB-012). The form and step-by-step instructions for filling it out can be found on the page Forms for Families. All additional forms that need to be filled out are also available on this page.
• Collect the necessary documentslisted in the checklist that appears after you complete the form.
• Submit the completed application and all required documents to: NYC Children - EDU, PO Box 40, Maplewood, NJ 07040.

If you need help filling out or advice, call the ACS Help Center at 212-835-7610. The line operates from Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 17:30.

What's next

If you meet the criteria, a voucher will be mailed to you. It must be completed and sent to the ACS office. After that, the kindergarten or child care center you have chosen will provide care for your child.
