Revenge for treason: husband beat his wife to a pulp at a bus stop in Manhattan

At a Washington Heights (Manhattan) bus stop, an abusive husband beat and severely injured his wife with a crowbar and then called 911 to surrender. Writes about it NY Daily News.

Julio Aponte, 63, repeatedly hit his 49-year-old wife in the head, shouting accusations like “How could you cheat on me,” police said.

He then escaped on a motorcycle, leaving his bloody wife behind, while the shocked witnesses called the emergency services.

Shortly thereafter, the husband abandoned his motorcycle nearby and called the emergency services himself to surrender.

At the scene of the attack, police said they found scrap wrapped in plastic, as well as Aponte's backpack.

The doctors took the woman to the hospital with cardiac arrest after she suffered a serious head injury. She is in critical condition.

Aponte's neighbors describe him as a heavy drinker and his wife as the devoted mother of a teenage son.

“He works in security, but he's always drunk,” said one man, who did not give his name.

“She is a really good woman, mother, very devoted to her son. She works at the school next door. This is a terrible tragedy, ”said a woman from the area.

Police charged Aponte with attempted murder and assault. He is awaiting sentencing in the Manhattan Criminal Court.
