The Metropolitan Museum of Art again changed the caption to two works and a photo portrait of seascape painter Ivan Aivazovsky. Now the museum's website emphasizes his Armenian origin. Writes about it Meduza.

Now the paintings “Ship in a stormy sea”, “Ship by moonlight” and Aivazovsky’s photo portrait are signed with his Armenian name – Hovhannes Ayvazyan. In addition, it states that he is an Armenian, born in the territory that was part of the then Russian Empire, and now it is Ukraine.

In addition, data appeared in his biography that “Aivazovsky had a rich cultural and linguistic past,” and he himself was a member of the Armenian community of his hometown of Feodosia (Crimea). Prior to that, the signature briefly noted that the marine painter was born in an Armenian family.

Previously, the Metropolitan Museum of Art considered Aivazovsky a Russian artist. After Russian invasion of Ukraine changed the captions to the paintings and called the artist a Ukrainian.
