Woman beat her 6-year-old daughter to death and abused two other children

A Bronx woman has been charged with murdering her 6-year-old daughter. Before his death, the child screamed and begged for help. According to New York Post, the mother beat the girl to death, and this is not the first case of domestic violence.

Line Eason-Kumar was arrested in connection with the murder of little Jalaya Eason, which occurred on May 26, 2023, in the family's squalid apartment in NYCHA's Forest Houses.

The mother initially told police she found the girl cold and not breathing in a closet on the 12th floor of their East 165th Street apartment. Eason-Kumar claimed she tried CPR, but Jalaya did not wake up.

An ambulance arrived 15 minutes later and rushed the girl, who had obvious bruises and injuries to her wrists and torso, to Lincoln Medical Center, but could not save her. Jalaya died from asphyxia and blunt force trauma.

Dennis Rivera, a neighbor of the family, said he heard the 6-year-old girl screaming and fighting for her life.

“At 3:42 in the morning, this girl was screaming,” Rivera confirmed. “She screamed furiously. She constantly repeated “stop”. Police sources said the family's address had already received several domestic violence calls.

Eason-Kumar was previously arrested on charges of harming her two other children, an 8-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. Both children had cuts, scars and rashes when police arrived at the home on May 26.

The boy was found to have “countless small lacerations in various stages of healing on his back, arms and legs.” In addition, there was a cut on the forehead and a deep, partially healed wound on the scalp.

The girl was diagnosed with a “long, discolored scar” on her waist and a “discolored rash on her inner thighs and buttocks.” The complaint provided chilling details about the filthy, insect-infested home.
