On October 5, Scandinavia House (58 Park Avenue) will host a vibrant theatrical event: the program "Bridge to Brodsky" will be shown to New York audiences. It is a synthesis of poetry, music, theater, and film. Musical works based on Joseph Brodsky's poems, spanning various genres—from romance to rock, from ballad to blues—will be presented in screen settings and filmic narratives.

This project is the result of a collaboration between People's Artist of Ukraine Georgy Melsky and director Roman Viktyuk. These two great theatre-makers have created a truly profound work of theatrical art that has already become legendary.
David Markish spoke very aptly about this program: “Georgy Melsky, with his performance, helps us to immerse ourselves in the cosmic bottomlessness of Joseph Brodsky’s poetry. This is that rare case when poems set to music and sung acquire a new, beautiful life.”
Ernst Neizvestny, after watching excerpts from the program in April 2006, said: "'Bridge to Brodsky' is a remarkable, if not unique, insight into the poet's work. Even if Georgy Melsky had accomplished nothing else in his life, I believe his life was not wasted."

One of Brodsky's closest friends, Yakov Gordin, wrote about the program: "Melsky's composition stands out sharply among the numerous attempts to combine Brodsky's poetry and music. The world he creates does not contrast with the nature of the poet's poems, does not suppress them, but in many cases clarifies their meaning and strengthens them with its own means. Melsky's work is correct and done with taste."
Thanks to the direction of Roman Viktyuk, the program “The Bridge to Brodsky” sparkled with new facets, like a beautiful diamond cut by the hand of a great master.
