A 3-year-old boy was found with bruises all over his body and a collapsed lung at a homeless shelter in Queens. The father of the child was charged with his murder on Wednesday, November 16, reports New York Post.
Shakuan Butler was found unconscious at a shelter at 79 Queens Boulevard around 00:19 p.m. on November 40, police said. An ambulance took him to NYC Health & Hospital/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.
His 26-year-old father, also named Shakuan Butler, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
The 21-year-old mother of the toddler told police that the boy fell and hit his head on the kitchen floor after choking on a chicken nugget. But the forensic examination established that Shakuan had received a blunt force trauma to the torso, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Doctors concluded that the bruises on the boy's body were in various stages of healing. They pointed to abuse. At the time of death, the child had a collapsed lung.
Detectives interrogated the parents of the deceased baby. His mother has not been charged with anything.
The couple have two other children who were removed from parental custody by the Children's Administration.
The orphanage where the boy lived with his family is located inside the former Pan Am hotel. It is operated by the non-profit organization Samaritan Daytop Village.
