A man in New York killed his daughter and shot himself: all because of a difficult break with the girl's mother

An upstate New York father allegedly killed his 14-year-old daughter. And then he shot himself. Before that, he told his wife in a chilling phone conversation: “This is how it will end for us.” Reports a horrific incident New York Post.

Eva Wood, a ninth grade student at Durgee Junior High School in Baldwinsville, was found on January 20 in her bed with a bullet wound to the head. This happened after her mother, Heather Wood, called the police because the girl did not come to school.

Her father, Christopher Wood, was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in another bedroom at 6 Triangle Place. The police found the weapon there.

On the evening of January 19, Christopher called Heather and told her: “This is how it will end.” Heather also told the 911 dispatcher that Christopher had been depressed lately.

“The sheriff and I have been in law enforcement for a long time, but seeing a scene like this is not easy,” said Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael Lefancek.

Two days earlier, Christopher also sent a series of offensive text messages to Heather. In March 2022, he was implicated in the stalking of Heather.

According to Lefancek, the couple were still married, but lived separately. Eva mostly lived with her father.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you of the tragic death of 9th grade high school student Durgee Jr. Eva Wood High School,” Baldwinsville School District said in an email to parents.

“We are a close-knit school community and our hearts are broken by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with Eva's family and friends during this extremely difficult time."

At school, Eva was involved in athletics and played football in elementary grades.

On Sunday evening, Eva's friends, classmates and teammates gathered at St. Mary's Church for a prayer service and candlelight vigil in memory of the tragically lost girl.

Her football teammates described Eva as a cheerful and cheerful girl who could be competitive on and off the field, but always respected everyone.

“Every time we saw each other, we always found out about each other's life,” said her classmate. “I always looked forward to meeting her.”

The Reverend Clifford Out, pastor of St Mary's, said Eva “was a person we can all learn from. In a world that sometimes glorifies disappointment and discord, she was a person who gave hope.”

Eva's athletics coach Tiffany Stubmann says Eva has always been relied upon.

“She's one of those special students who reminds you why you love coaching,” she said. “She was a leader, a serious competitor and an athlete in everything.”

Eva's classmate and close friend Emily Calkins recalled how they sat across from each other at lunch every day.

“She always gave me her Welch gum,” Emily recalled. Eva also told her how much she loved her father and that she was looking forward to the day she could start her own family.

“Eva wanted children to spoil and love them endlessly,” Emily added.

Principal TJ Fraher praised the students for their "kindness and willingness to support each other during this difficult time."

Heather thanked the community for their support during the tragedy.
