He overdid it: a driver in New York loaded 5 tons of junk onto a pickup truck: even the police were surprised

On July 22, Troop F Commercial Vehicle Unit (CVU) stopped a pickup truck in Suffern, New York. The police were shocked by what they saw, reports Q1057.

The problem was that this type of pickup truck is designed to carry a maximum of 3 tons of cargo, but the stopped vehicle was transporting more than 5,5 tons of various rubbish.

On Monday, July 22, according to a post on the New York State Police Facebook page, Troop F officers spotted car, like a mountain. It was a pickup truck.

The police stopped the car, because it turned out that the truck's suspension could not support the load.

The driver placed the dumpster on his pickup truck - and that alone is impressive. He also loaded additional junk into the trunk and tied everything up with ropes.

The most harmless consequence of transporting “everything at once” is the breakdown of suspension parts and, possibly, transmission. These parts are not designed to withstand such loads. It is much worse that an overloaded car at one obviously not the most wonderful moment may be left without brakes. The car will no longer obey the steering, which was designed based on standard load values.

The laws of physics make even small, loose objects a very serious danger to the driver and passengers. It's all about kinetic energy. It is known from school that it is proportional to the square of the speed. Even at city speeds, body weight can increase 30 times. This means that a box of flowers weighing 5 kg, standing on a shelf under the rear window, in the event of a head-on collision, can fly into the back of the driver’s head with a mass force of one and a half centners.
