Amid protests in New York, killings skyrocket

In just one week, 13 kills and 40 shootings were recorded in the Big Apple. This publication reports New York Post.

In New York last week, the number of murders and shootings has risen sharply, compared to the same period last year. This was reported by sources in law enforcement.

From last Monday, June 1, to Sunday evening, June 7, 13 murders were committed in the city, compared with five murders in the same week last year.

40 shootings were reported last week, the highest number in a week since 2015. For the same period in 2019, 24 shootings were recorded.

Rising crime occurred when demonstrators took to the streets of the city in protest of the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Most of the protests were peaceful, but some nights the demonstrations were overshadowed by robberies and the destruction of shops in several areas.

At least one shot in Soho last Monday was linked to looters, police said.
