A winter wonderland has opened on Governors Island, and it's just fabulous

The Governors Island Foundation recently announced a return this year Winter village on Governor's Island, and now it's officially open! This will be the second year for the seasonal destination after last year's success. Secret NYC.

Visitors of all ages can take part in just about every celebration imaginable. The village has a 697 square meter skating rink, crackling fires, warm drinks, games, even bike and sleigh rentals!

“Secret Revealed: Governors Island is a magical place all year round. And we are thrilled to welcome New Yorkers back to Winter Village,” said Claire Newman, President and CEO of the Governors Island Foundation. “In addition to some pretty spectacular ice skating, Winter Village visitors will once again be able to enjoy delicious food, exciting programs and stunning scenery. They are what make Governors Island a great place to visit throughout the year.”

The ice rink offers breathtaking views of the city skyline. Visitors can ice skate Thursday through Sunday, as well as during New York City public school holidays. According to their website, admission to the rink is free on Thursdays. And “Free admission on Fridays” is for pedestrians only.

Once you've worked up an appetite after skating, head to Little Eva's. Try dishes from the new seasonal menu. Or stop by one of the amazing food trucks for a bite to eat. Afterwards, have a cup of hot cocoa and make yourself comfortable by the fireplace. In addition to the ice skating rink, New Yorkers will be able to enjoy a host of winter activities seven days a week.

“Regardless of the time of year, Governors Island is always a must-see. Winter Village has something for everyone,” said Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine.
