The life of the wife of a former US Marine who died in battles against the Russians who invaded Ukraine “completely fell apart” after the death of her husband, reports New York Post.
New York native Willie Joseph Cansell, 22, left his wife Brittany and their seven-month-old son Anthony in March after taking a paid job with a private military company “to protect the innocent” in Ukraine, his father wrote on the page. GoFundMe.
Last Tuesday, Cansall's wife received the worst call of her life. She was told that her husband had died in battle. “Your husband fought bravely, but unfortunately he did not survive,” she was told in a telephone conversation.
“After the call on April 26, her life completely fell apart. Now she must figure out how to put it back together again. How to raise your son without a father or financial support,” Cansell’s father wrote on the fundraising website. As of Saturday, more than $61 has been raised to help the widow. The fundraiser is planned to help raise enough money to support Cansell's wife and son.
“He will grow up without a father. A father who was brave and selfless and whose life was wasted senselessly,” Cansell’s father wrote of his grandson. “While he grows up, knowing that his father died a hero will not be easy. No parent should ever bury their child. And no child should grow up without parents.”

Willie Joseph Cansell flew to Poland on March 12 and arrived in Ukraine the next day to fight side by side with men from different countries, his mother Rebecca Cabrera said on Friday. According to Cabrera, the circumstances of Cansell's death are unclear, his body was not immediately discovered.
He previously served as a marksman in the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, the Marine Corps said Friday. “He did not have business trips to the war zone. He was fired for bad behavior after violating a general order,” said Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Jim Stenger.
