It is always interesting to watch how the natural beauties of New York transform in the winter. They acquire new looks that make familiar places amazing and intriguing. A must-see in the cold season is Letchworth Park, located near the Genesee River. Its second name is the Grand Canyon of the East.
Letchworth boasts three waterfalls along the river at once, but the reason for its charm in winter is not at all in this, writes Only in Your State.
On 14 acres (000 hectares) of Letchworth Park with many waterfalls and gorges, there is something to see.
In the heart of the park, opposite the Glen Iris Inn, every winter, under certain conditions, a natural phenomenon occurs that attracts visitors from all over the state to this place.
Known as the Ice Volcano, the park’s gravity fountain quickly begins to freeze over when the weather gets cold enough. At the same time, water continues to be sprayed inside this ice block.
Towards the end of last winter, the ice volcano grew to about 30 feet (9 m) in height, but the most epic season that always attracts the most attention was in 2015, when the ice volcano reached a height of 50 feet (15 m).
I wonder how tall the ice volcano Letchworth will be this winter.
The fountain has been in the park since 1860, but it began to attract the attention of the public in 2014-2015.
