Hochul Proposes Making SUNY and CUNY Colleges Free for Adults in In-Demand Jobs

On January 14, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a proposal to make SUNY and CUNY community colleges tuition-free for adult students pursuing in-demand careers. NBC tells more about this initiative.
They want to make select associate degrees in in-demand professions, including nursing, teaching, technology and engineering, free.
It is important to understand that this is not a final decree, but merely a proposal. It must be approved by the state legislature. If approved, the state will cover tuition, books, and fees for eligible students.
What do they offer?
The program will serve New York City residents ages 25 to 55. Eligible students will be accepted into associate degree programs in nursing, teaching, technology, engineering and other fields at SUNY and CUNY colleges.
The cost of books and other fees will also be paid by the state.

“When my father earned a college degree, our entire family had a chance at a better life. I want every New Yorker to have that opportunity,” Hochul said. “My plan would provide every New Yorker with a free degree from SUNY and CUNY community colleges to fill the in-demand jobs of tomorrow.”
