A new poll shows how New Yorkers are assessing Mayor Zohran Mamdani's first 100 days in office. Most see him as a unifying figure, though approval remains moderate. MSN tells in more detail.
More than 60% of New Yorkers consider Mayor Zohran Mamdani a unifying figure for the city, according to a new survey by the Marist College Institute of Public Opinion.
The study assessed residents' attitudes toward the mayor at the beginning of his term.
Zohran Mamdani, 34, ran a whirlwind campaign. Within months, he had become the frontrunner in the race. This came as a surprise to many, as the young candidate beat out one of New York's most established politicians to secure the Democratic nomination.
Approval rating
Mamdani's overall approval rating after his first 100 days is 48%. The survey was conducted in late March among 1454 adults.
30% of respondents do not approve of his work.

Another 23% are undecided. The institute called this figure "significant."
At the same time, the rating Mamdani lower than in the first 100 days of former New York City Mayor Eric Adams, when it was 61%.
A unifying figure
61% of residents believe that Mamdani unites the city more than it divides it.
Nearly three-quarters of those surveyed said he worked hard in his position.
"Compared to his predecessors at a similar stage of their tenure, Mamdani performs better among registered voters on achieving positive change in New York City," the report says. "He is more often perceived as a hard worker than Bill de Blasio."
What he has already done
One of Mamdani's main challenges has been dangerous winter storms, which have hit the New York region hard this year.
29 people died due to the cold.
Overall, residents believe the mayor handled the situation well: 65% of respondents approved of his actions during the severe frosts.
Relationship with Donald Trump
Nearly 60% of residents acknowledge that Mamdani has struck the right balance in his relationship with President Donald Trump.
They represent different political camps, but their ability to cooperate nevertheless surprised many.
Politicians disagree on many issues, but continue to find compromises, especially during personal meetings.
"The new communist mayor of New York City is actually a good guy," Trump emphasized during his address to the nation. "I talk to him often. Bad policies, but a good man."
