New York is ready to provide financial assistance to illegal immigrants. For this purpose, a fund was created in the amount of 2,1 billion dollars, writes BK Reader.
From the beginning of August, illegal workers in New York can apply for financial assistance of $15 or $600 after tax. These payments will come from New York State through the $3 billion Excluded Workers Fund, which was approved by lawmakers in April.
It was created to ensure that workers in New York who were not eligible for unemployment benefits due to immigration status receive some assistance. After all, federal payments in connection with the pandemic did not apply to them either. About 275 illegal immigrants live in New York.
$15 or $600
Illegal workers who can provide written proof of pre-pandemic income, such as pay stubs or tax returns, are eligible for $15. And those who cannot provide such evidence will be able to receive $600.

Despite the fact that the amount is rather big, the unemployment payments and federal financial assistance received by Americans are much more than what illegal immigrants will pay.
When can I apply for payment
Applications can be submitted in early August. The Labor Department does not provide a more specific date, but civil rights organizations for the protection of the rights of illegal immigrants say that applications can be submitted from August 1. Application can be made at this link.
Who is eligible to receive payments
You may be eligible for these payments if:
- Lived in New York until March 27, 2020 and still live in the city
- Not receiving unemployment benefits
- Earned less than $2020 from April 2021 to April 26.
- Lost income between February 23, 2020 and April 1, 2021
- If you have become responsible for most of your family income due to the death or disability of the main breadwinner
How much money can you get
$15 or $600 before taxes. The amount will depend on what documents and evidence the illegal will provide. The Labor Department has not yet said how much tax will be charged on each payment.
What documents are needed
- Proof of identity (passport, driving license or other official documents such as marriage or divorce certificates);
- Proof that you lived in New York before March 27, 2020 and are currently living in the city.
- Proof of wages - by letter from the employer, receipts, W2 form, tax return, or other documentation.
Those who provide all three documents will be eligible for payment in $15. Those unable to provide a third document can rely on 3200 dollars.
