Snowfall, frost and icy winds: cold weather to hit New York

The polar vortex will bring severe cold to the northeastern United States this week, particularly New York City. We can expect very cold winds and freezing temperatures.
According to National Weather Service, temperatures will range from -5 to -15 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to -26 Celsius) tonight into early Tuesday morning and from 0 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-17 to -23 Celsius) on Wednesday. Thursday night will see temperatures reach -12 degrees Fahrenheit (-24 Celsius).

New York City is already preparing for cold weather. According to the New York City Office of Emergency Management, a severe cold weather warning has been issued, and the New York City Department of Public Health has declared a blue weather crisis (severe cold).
The mayor's office promises to set up shelters for the homeless and anyone who needs to stay warm in all five boroughs of the city.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul urged New Yorkers to take precautions on January 19. Snowfall is expected across the state this week. January 20 predicted widespread snowfall in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County, with up to 15 inches of snow possible.
New Jersey has declared a state of emergency. The entire tri-state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) is under a winter storm warning due to expected snowfall combined with dangerously cold air. There's a 90% chance New York City will see at least 7 cm of snow.
From late evening on January 19 through January 22, snowfall could bring up to one meter of snow to areas of Western New York, Finger Lakes, Central New York and the North Country.
