New York City has launched a new website that allows renters to get affordable housing without applying for a housing lottery, reports Pix11.
Now you can find free affordable housing in the new New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) website. The database of available apartments on the site will be updated every time after the winner of the previous lotteries is moving out.
"We update it regularly as new units become available for re-rental and resale," said HPD deputy spokeswoman Natasha Kersey.

Through the website, those interested can find both affordable rentals and apartments for sale. These properties are available directly through housing managers. Those interested do not have to apply to participate in lottery affordable housing when applying for apartments.
It's part of a series of changes designed to eliminate the backlog of re-rentals. These properties become available after a lottery winner moves out of their apartment. Previously, these offers were only available to lottery winners who agreed to receive re-rent and resale alerts.
Under the policy changes, properties can now be listed on both property manager websites and popular rental sites like StreetEasy.
“This change helps people find the right housing at the right time as we update Housing Connect and its functionality,” Kersey said.
This easier way to apply for re-rent and resale is temporary and will be in effect for at least a year. Click herefor more information on re-leasing.
