Become a Teacher by September: New York Offers Training Program for Aspiring Teachers

New York City is offering aspiring teachers the opportunity to start working in one of the city's schools as early as September.
Applications are now open for the NYC Teaching Fellows program, which trains college graduates and career changers to become teachers in special education, science, math, and Spanish in New York City classrooms.
It is one of the largest alternative pathways to teacher certification in the country. More than 9000 fellows currently work in New York City public schools in positions posts teachers, principals and administrators.
Requirements
There are several requirements for candidates:
- Bachelor's degree (in any field) received before May 31, 2025;
- minimum final cumulative grade point average (GPA) – 2,5;
- fluency in written and spoken English;
- the right to work in the United States.
Fellows will study from 7:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. every weekday during the summer (June through August).

A stipend will be offered for the duration of the course. Successful completion of the course and acceptance into permanent employment as a New York City public school teacher will result in a full salary and benefits.
How to apply
Applications are accepted here until 28 March.
The process consists of three parts: online application, telephone interview and selection day.
After submitting your application online, you may be invited to a 30-minute individual telephone interview.
Candidates who successfully pass the telephone interview will be invited to an in-person event on the day of the selection, where they will be required to deliver a five-minute sample lesson.

- Mathematics (grades 7-12);
- Immersion in Mathematics (grades 7-12).
There are special options for teachers who want to work with children with disabilities.
