The race for New York City mayor is on – the election will be held on November 4, 2025. New York ForumDaily will tell you more about Curtis Sliwa, the latest candidate for mayor of the city.
Curtis Sliva
Curtis wants to focus on fighting crime and strengthening the police department.
Position today: founder of the anti-crime group Guardian Angels, radio show host.
Ideological position: an eccentric conservative activist who joined the Republican Party several years ago.
Main supporters: all five Republican parties in the district.
Fundraising: not reported yet.
On the subject: How to Safely Attend a New York Protest: Tips for Immigrants and Beyond
Location: Upper West Side.
Problems: He's a Republican running again for mayor in a city that remains deeply Democratic. Sliva hasn't raised any money yet.
Perspectives: This isn't Sliva's first run for mayor. He was the Republican candidate in the last mayoral election. So far, he's been endorsed by every county Republican party in the city. Of course, that doesn't mean Sliva will win the general election. He lost handily to Adams in 2021.
In New York, registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by seven to one. But this candidate shouldn't be written off entirely. Sliwa, known for his red beret and deep love of cats, has proven time and time again that he's a master of the attention-grabbing game.
Many of the issues Sliva focuses on — crime, people leaving the city, the city's provision of sanctuary and care for migrants — have been hot-button issues throughout the Adams administration, giving him plenty to talk about on the campaign trail.
