Popular Retailer to Close 21 Stores in New York

The largest national retailer Forever 21 has announced the closure of 200 stores, 21 of which are located in New York, reports BigFrog.
Companies continue to navigate current challenges in the fashion industry, including changing consumer habits, rising prices and increased competition from online shopping.
Party City, Macy's, Walgreens, Joann Fabrics, Game Stop, Big Lots and Esprit are just a few of the national networks, who announced closing or bankruptcy in the last few months.
Forever 21 Closes More Stores
Forever 21 Founded in 1984 by a married couple, the retailer has struggled to compete with online retailers like Shein and Temu. They even merged with Shein in 2023, but things didn't go as expected.

Mall owners Simon Property Group and Brookfield Corporation, along with Authentic Brands Group, saved the fashion retailer from liquidation when they bought it out of bankruptcy in 2020.

The company announced it would close 200 more stores, including 21 in New York, and lay off thousands of workers. If it can't find another buyer, it may have to liquidate everything.
Forever 21 already closed in Destiny USA and Sangertown Square Mall in 2019.
