New York City's Housing Lottery Offers Apartments for Under $1000 a Month

A new one has opened in New York affordable housing lotteryThe program offers one-bedroom apartments with monthly rents of less than $1000.
The affordable housing lottery is being held for the 129 3rd Street Apartments complex, located in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.
"Welcome to 129 3rd Street. Every detail has been meticulously crafted to transform your perception of luxury living. Residents “A full range of amenities is available: a gym, co-working space, rooftop terrace, lounge, and outdoor area – for just $75 per month,” the listing says.
One-room apartments
There are eight one-bedroom apartments available in the building. Prices rental is $933 per month.
The following persons have the right to participate:
- one person with an income of $37,612 to $43,480 per year;
- a couple with an income of $45,395 to $49,720;
- a family of three with an income of $37,612 to $55,920.

Two-room apartments
In addition to the one-bedroom apartments, the building also offers five two-bedroom apartments. Rent is $1104 per month.
The following persons have the right to participate:
- a couple with an income of $45,395 to $49,720;
- a family of three with an income of $45,395 to $55,920;
- a family of four with an income of $45,395 to $62,120.
Additional one- and two-bedroom apartments are available through the housing lottery. Rents for other properties vary. Higher-income earners may qualify for apartments with higher rents.
Income and application deadlines
The eligible income level for the lottery is between $37,612 and $218,010 per year. Applications for apartments at 129 3rd Street will be open until May 5.
