A partial collapse of an apartment building occurred in New York City on the morning of October 1. The incident occurred in the Bronx following a suspected explosion in a waste incinerator shaft. NBC tells in more detail.
At 8:10 a.m., a section of a public housing building on Alexander Avenue collapsed. Deputy Mayor Kaz Dogtree reported this in the X.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference that the preliminary investigation points to explosion, which caused the collapse.
Details of the incident
"It's a ventilation shaft connected to the boiler room. We believe that's where the explosion occurred," explained Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker.
The fire department received a call just after 8:00 a.m. and arrived on scene less than four minutes later.

"When our units arrived, they reported a major collapse of a structure adjacent to this building," Tucker confirmed.
There were no reports of casualties.
"There are no casualties or injuries because it happened in a boiler room," Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson said.

Con Edison responded to the incident by shutting off gas to the building.
Violations and investigation
According to city authorities, the building has certain violations.
"There are several open violations, but we don't know yet if they are related to this incident," said Department of Buildings Commissioner James S. Oddo.
According to him, the building has "three open violations related to boiler equipment." They concern "non-hazardous defects."
The cause of the collapse has not yet been established.
State Assembly member Amanda Septimo called for those responsible to be found.
"We can't rely on luck to keep our communities safe," she emphasized. "We're deploying state resources to ensure boilers are repaired and elevators are replaced. We need a clear account of what happened and who is responsible."
