New York teens are among the laziest in America, and it's a health hazard

Regular exercise is essential for the physical and mental health of young people. The Centers for Disease Control has said that children ages 6 to 17 should get at least an hour of physical activity each day. News 10.
This level of activity reduces the risk of obesity and may actually help children do better in school and experience less anxiety and depression. Despite all this evidence of benefit exercise for teenagers, today only about a quarter of them meet the recommended level of physical activity.

In New York State, teenagers don't even reach that threshold. Only about 19% of them exercise daily, which is the fourth worst result in the US. According to a new report from HotDog.com, 38,7% reported exercising five or more days a week, while 20% said they didn't exercise at all.
In all of America, just over 23% of teens exercise every day, and 44,1% exercise five or more days a week. Adolescents who do not play sports at all make up 17% of the country's population, and New York State significantly exceeds this figure.
The data used in this analysis was obtained from the CDC Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. To determine the states with the most physically active teens, HotDog.com calculated the percentage of high school students who were physically active for at least 60 minutes a day.
