Oneida County, New York is in dire need of corrections officers. Therefore, he will waive the requirement to pass civil service exams in order to expand the pool of candidates and speed up hiring, reports WFTV.
The county is launching a pilot program approved by the New York State Department of Public Service. It allows candidates, instead of taking a special exam, to fill out an online questionnaire in which they describe their work experience and education.
“It will make the process easier,” Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol said. “Of course, you don't need to be an experienced corrections officer to pass the exam. But it's still a tough exam. We have many people who do not pass it. But still they have the potential to become excellent officers.”
There are currently 76 vacancies in the county jail.
