It would seem that nothing can surprise the inhabitants of the stone jungle. But a huge black snake spotted on a subway platform in New York City this weekend stunned passengers and transit workers. The details were shared by the edition New York Post.
On Sunday, August 9, an eyewitness posted a striking video on Twitter. The footage shows a huge black snake crawling along one of the unidentified platforms in the New York subway. Behind the reptile, about a meter away, a passenger awaits the arrival of the train. “As a train driver on the New York subway, you think you've seen everything, but then you see it,” wrote a transit worker who posted videoreceived from one of the eyewitnesses.

At the time of this publication, the video has collected almost 200 shares. People actively share their thoughts about what they see. One Twitter user noticed that the snake crawls faster than the R train.
The National Wildlife Federation speculates that it is a black eastern rat snake that can grow to over two meters in length. Their natural habitat typically stretches from Connecticut to South Carolina and to Kansas and Oklahoma in the west.

These snakes are harmless to humans: they tend to "prefer to feed on rodents, frogs and eggs, rather than the Big Apple who come to work," the report said.
MTA on Sunday reacted to the incident, saying it was investigating.
