In the state of New York on December 3, five cases of infection with a new strain of coronavirus were recorded, all of which are already known omicron. This was announced by the Governor of the state Katie Hawkul on her page in Twitter.
“There are five confirmed cases of the omicron strain in New York State,” she wrote.
Hawkul assured residents that there was no reason to panic.
“We knew that this strain would come, and we have the tools to stop its spread,” the governor explained once again calling for vaccinations and wearing masks.
The first case of infection was identified in Suffolk County. A 67-year-old unvaccinated woman fell ill, at the moment her illness is mild.
The second and third cases are reported in Queens, and the vaccination status of the cases is currently unknown. The fourth case was recorded in Brooklyn, the fifth - also in the city of New York, but the exact area was not reported.
The first case of infection with the omicron strain in the United States was recorded on December 1. It was discovered in the state of California. The sick patient came from South Africa and was fully vaccinated. His illness is mild.
Recall that a new strain of coronavirus, which has over 30 mutations, was first discovered in South Africa at the end of November. It caused another wave of panic in the world and led to the partial closure of borders. However, there is no reason for strong feelings. We still know little about the omicron, but what we know, looks no worse than other strains.
