A New York teenager lost the sight in his left eye after using a Chinese-made laser pointer he bought on Amazon, reports NYPost.
The 16-year-old's injury occurred when the boy turned on a Cofeymera brand High Power Blue Pointer in May 2022. The laser beam burned his retina, according to his father, Fred Mamun, who is suing him in Manhattan federal court.
«Amazon "knew the $62,99 device was defective. It was improperly designed, manufactured, tested, labeled, tested, advertised and sold," the family said in the lawsuit.

Mamun's son underwent surgery to restore his retina, but his condition continues to deteriorate.
"These Chinese products are not tested at all," said attorney David Yaroslavitz.
"The consumer assumes they are buying directly from Amazon. That increases trust in these Chinese merchants," Yaroslavits explained. "And now a 16-year-old has lost the sight in one eye."
In the lawsuit against Amazon The parents are demanding monetary compensation.
