It seems that the future of sculptural art has already arrived. An intricate new art installation is set to open in New York City. According to Time-out, this will be a kind of portal from New York to Dublin, Ireland.
The Portal is a new technology sculpture that will be installed in May at Flatiron South on Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street next to the Flatiron Building. It will broadcast video in real time - showing what is happening on the other side of the world in Dublin. Such a portal will also be installed there - it will broadcast what is currently happening in New York.
Connection between two cities
Lithuanian artist and entrepreneur Benediktas Gilis has created portals that, according to an official press release, “transcend boundaries and differences, inviting you to meet other people and experience our world as it really is – united and united.”
In Dublin, the “magic door” will be installed on the city's main thoroughfare, O'Connell Street, overlooking the GPO and the Spire, allowing New Yorkers to enjoy a classic Irish painting without leaving the heart of Manhattan.

“This real-time connection between two iconic public spaces in global cities on both sides of the Atlantic will bring people together both physically and digitally. This will be an exciting attraction for New York City residents and visitors,” explained James Mettam, President of the Flatiron NoMad Partnership.
This is not the first technological creation of its kind. Similar portals, also created by Gilis, were installed in Lithuania and Poland back in 2021 – immediately after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
