Drunk man shoots an ambulance doctor who was trying to help him

A drunken man riding in the back seat of an ambulance shot an ambulance officer in the shoulder on his way to a Staten Island hospital late on Wednesday, May 18, reports NBC New York.
Around 20 p.m., a team at the University of Richmond Medical Center responded to a call from a bully at the Funkey Monkey Lounge on Forest Avenue. It turned out to be 00-year-old Thomas McCauley.
McCauley was drunk and unconscious when the ambulance arrived. On the way to the hospital, he woke up, pulled out a gun and shot one of the medics in the shoulder. McCauley then jumped out of the ambulance and fled. But he was captured by a retired NYPD detective. The suspect is in local custody, charges pending.

The victim, a 25-year-old emergency physician, works at the University of Richmond Medical Center. After being wounded in the back, he is in a stable condition in the trauma department. It is expected to be discharged on Thursday, May 19.
