Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed into law legislation to legalize recreational marijuana in the region on June 22. Thus, now all over the tri state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) you can legally smoke "weed", writes NPR.
Under the new law, effective July 1, people 21 and older will be allowed to store and use marijuana in Connecticut. The document also lays the foundation for a new cannabis industry in the region.
The bill to legalize marijuana was finally approved by both houses of the State Assembly last week during a special session.
“I think this is the most complete and best legalization bill in the country,” said Connecticut House Majority Leader Jason Rojas.
The law allows individuals 21 years of age or older to carry or consume up to 1,5 ounces (42,5 grams) of "cannabis plant material." In addition, up to 5 ounces (141,7 grams) can be stored at home or transported in a car (in a locked container). Retail sales of recreational cannabis in Connecticut are not expected to begin until the summer of 2022.

Connecticut became the 19th state in America to allow recreational marijuana use.
His neighbors in the region did it a little earlier. New York legalized cannabis in April 2021. However, official marijuana sales in the state will not begin until 2022.
In New Jersey in November 2020 state residents formally approved the legalization of cannabis in a referendum, but the state itself does not yet have a law regulating this market.
