Brooklyn President Eric Adams won the New York Democratic primaries and will be nominated by the party for mayor of the city. These results are still preliminary, as counting is still ongoing, but there is no chance that the leader of the race will change. Adams, a former captain of the New York City Police Department, positions himself as a moderate Democrat. He made the fight against crime his main task. CBS News.
According to data published on July 7 on the city's Election Commission website, Adams was ahead of Catherine Garcia by just 1 percent, receiving the support of 50,5% of voters.
Following these results, Adams declared the primary closed.
“Although there are very few votes left to count, the results are clear: a historic, multinational coalition of five boroughs led by New York's working class led us to victory in the Democratic primaries for the mayor of New York City,” Adams said in a statement. “We must now focus on winning November so that we can deliver on this great city's promise to those struggling, underprivileged, and pursuing a safe, fair and affordable future for all New Yorkers.”

Received 403 votes for Adams gave him an advantage of 333 votes over Garcia, who received 8 votes.
The difference is small, but it is enough to ensure the victory of Adams. The fact is that only 942 of the approximately 126 absentee ballots remain to be counted. Until now, they have not been taken into account due to mistakes that voters will be allowed to correct. The deadline for revisions is Friday, July 000th.
In addition to his career with the NYPD, Adams served four terms in the New York State Senate. He was elected President of Brooklyn in 2013. Much of his campaign has been built around the idea of securing New York City amid a wave of violence over the past year.
Piercing for victory
Immediately after winning the primaries, Eric Adams kept his election promise and ... pierced his ear. He posted a video confirming this step on Twitter.
“During the election campaign, a group of young people met with me and my son. They asked: "How do we know that you are not like other politicians who make promises and do not fulfill." They said they would trust me if I promised to get my ear pierced after winning the primaries. I made such a promise, and now this promise has been fulfilled! " - posted by Adams on Twitter.

What's next
The Democratic primary winner will face Republican candidate Curtis Sliva on November 2. There are more Democrats in New York City than Republicans, with a ratio of about 7: 1. The last time a Republican was elected mayor of the city was in 2005. So Adams has a very high chance of winning. If he wins, he will become the second black mayor of New York.
